In the contemporary bodybuilding landscape, Phil Heath is one of the all – time greats. Securing seven Mr. Olympia titles, his dominance in the sport is truly iconic and has been the focus of numerous documentaries. However, these accolades were not amassed easily. Fast forward to September 2012, at 32 years old, he was in Las Vegas, successfully defending his Mr. Olympia title, with his weight now at 107kg. This seemingly seamless title defense was the result of over a decade of hard work.

The Basketball – Loving Roots

Once, he was a young man brimming with ambition, desire, and passion. As a basketball player, he was the type who could sink open three – pointers and was tenacious on defense. In one game, he even got five stitches over his right eye in the final minutes. After changing his blood – stained jersey, he returned to the court, made a free throw, and grabbed a crucial rebound, leading his Rainier Beach team to victory over “Olympia” High School with a score of 44 to 40. It almost seemed like a premonition of his future triumphs at Olympia.

While defending his title in 2012 and filming his first documentary, beneath his seemingly relaxed exterior, Phil Heath was as nervous as he was on the basketball court over 10 years ago, burning with the desire to win.
