Novice Runners: Should You Keep Running When Tired?

Introduction

For those new to running, various issues often crop up during the running process. One common question is, “When I’m tired of running, if I keep going, is it useless? Is it just a waste of energy and ineffective for my running?” Here, we’ll explain this from two aspects for these novice runners.

Enhancing Cardiorespiratory Adaptation

When I first started running, I also faced similar problems. My initial running – intensity plan was to run 2 km per day. I’m a persistent person and stuck to running every day. But when I reached the 2 – km mark and wanted to run two more kilometers, I simply couldn’t. Eventually, I gave up on my own. Later, after calming down, I realized that it was mainly my psychological factor at play. My brain’s central nerve transmitted the information that I could only run 2 km to the motor system, making me stop after running 2 km.

Our running – fitness goal is to constantly break through ourselves. For example, moving from running 2 km to 3 km. This is the kind of mental quality a runner should possess. Only in this way can the adaptability of your cardiorespiratory function be enhanced, your running endurance be well – exercised, and your endurance reach a higher level. Conversely, if you stop as soon as you feel tired after running the same distance, your running level will never improve, your endurance will not increase, and you’ll be stagnant. This will not only affect your physical quality but also have a negative impact on your life in terms of willpower.

Scientific Methods for Breakthrough

This situation actually indicates that you’ve reached a running bottleneck. As a novice, you must adjust your running plan. It is recommended that you slow down your running speed during the running process. By doing so, you can extend your running distance at a slow speed, and your physical strength can meet the requirements for breaking through the distance. Day by day, you will gradually break through the original distance and make your running distance longer and longer.

Also, reduce the number of runs. Some runners don’t pay attention to physical fatigue and think that as long as they run, they can improve their endurance and running distance. However, if you do this, your muscle strength will feel fatigued, and your performance will get worse each time. It is advisable to train twice a week. So, properly adjusting your running speed and frequency is crucial.

Novice runners should pay attention to striking a good balance. In order to break through their limits and better exercise their endurance, they can push themselves to run further when tired, but not overdo it, as it may harm their bodies. Novices should master skills such as how to control their running speed, how to breathe evenly while running, the correct running posture, and stretching exercises before and after running. With the help of this basic knowledge, they can raise their running level to a higher stage.
