Boys generally have greater muscle strength than girls, so when boys engage in elastic – band weight – bearing exercises, they often need to increase the training weight to achieve more pronounced fitness results. But how exactly should one choose the appropriate weight of the elastic band?

Choosing the Right Weight Based on Individual Circumstances

Firstly, when making a weight selection, it is crucial to base it on one’s own actual situation. Even among boys, weights can vary. For example, if we use the same type of elastic band for training but with different weights, in the first weight – training session, we can perform up to 15 repetitions, while in the second session, we can only manage 8 repetitions. Clearly, the second weight is a bit too large for our own training intensity. Exceeding our suitable weight can cause more damage to the muscles. The most standard approach is that the elastic band should allow us to continuously perform 8 – 10 repetitions of training. On this basis, reduce the weight by 40% – 50% for effective fitness.

Weight Selection According to Physique Differences

Secondly, boys need to be cautious when choosing the poundage of elastic bands in the market. Given the difference in physique between boys and girls, with boys generally stronger, boys should control the weight selection at around 20 pounds, while girls are recommended to choose elastic bands of about 12 pounds. Elastic – band training is a cumulative mode. If the weight is too large, it will reduce the number of training repetitions, change the training intensity, and make the training effect less obvious.

The Importance of Elasticity

When choosing an elastic band, we must also consider its elasticity. Trainers will stretch the elastic band during movement, often several times its original length. If the elasticity is poor, it will not strongly stimulate the target muscles during exercise, reducing the exercise effect. Conversely, if the elasticity is high, it will increase the resistance, strengthening the stimulation of the target muscles and thus achieving better results.
